The Faculty of Animal Science in UGM Strengthens Global Network Through Participation in the X Agriculture Forum and Academic Discussions in Taiwan

The Leadership of the Faculty of Animal Science in UGM conducted an academic visit to Taiwan from December 2ⁿᵈ – 6ᵗʰ, 2025. The delegation consisted of the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Ir. Budi Guntoro, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng., and the Vice Dean for Assets, Finance, and Human Resources, Ir. Andriyani Astuti, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPM., ASEAN Eng. The main activities included participation in the 2026 X Agriculture Forum at National Taiwan University (NTU), an academic discussion at the Lee-Ming Institute of Technology, and an industrial visit to Grape King Bio Ltd.

This international forum brought together leading universities from various countries, including National Taiwan University, IPB University, the University of the Philippines of Los Banos, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Seoul National University, Nagoya University, Oregon State University, and Hokkaido University. The forum’s main themes included innovative agriculture, smart farming, net-zero carbon, biotechnology, and animal and plant health.

The Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Budi Guntoro, emphasized that the Faculty’s participation in this forum is a crucial step in accelerating the faculty’s internationalization.

“This forum provides strategic access for direct networking with global partner universities and accelerates the formation of research collaborations, Q1/Q2 publications, and opportunities for student and lecturer mobility. The presence of faculty leaders provides institutional legitimacy, allowing for swift and effective negotiations,” said Prof. Budi on Thursday (11/12).

In addition to presenting UGM’s institutional profile, the delegation also engaged in thematic discussions and explored collaborations with several partner universities. Various collaboration opportunities emerged, including joint research, student exchanges, visiting professorships, and potential double degree programs.

The Vice Dean for Assets, Finance, and Human Resources, Ir. Andriyani Astuti, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPM., ASEAN Eng., added that the visit was also crucial for benchmarking faculty management and strengthening governance.

“Discussions with global universities provided insights for the Faculty of Animal Science in strengthening asset and financial management systems, as well as developing internationally oriented human resources. Industrial visits, such as the one to Grape King Bio, also opened opportunities for applied research in biotechnology and animal health,” she explained.

The series of activities in Taiwan included the opening of the forum, thematic sessions, institutional presentations, an industrial visit to Grape King Bio Ltd., and a follow-up discussion agenda at the Lee-Ming Institute of Technology. The leaders also participated in benchmarking sessions and bilateral meetings with several universities and industrial partners.

As a follow-up, the Faculty of Animal Science formulated five main agendas: finalizing MoUs/MoAs with new partners, establishing an internationalization task force, developing collaborative research proposals, opening inbound and outbound mobility channels for students and lecturers, and targeting internationally renowned collaborative publications.

Through this visit, the Faculty of Animal Science reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its position as a globally reputable faculty active in international academic collaboration, research innovation, and developing superior human resources in the field of animal husbandry.
