The Department of Animal Nutrition and Feed is the academic implementing element of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry that carries out education and teaching, research, and community service in the branches of science related to animal husbandry, especially biological nutrition and animal feed. The main task of this department is to develop scientific knowledge of nutrition and animal feed which includes biochemistry, animal nutrition, feed composition and nutrient requirements for livestock, procurement, use, preservation and feeding techniques for livestock, as well as how to prepare rations.
This department has four laboratories. The following is a laboratory and lecturer personnel in each laboratory in the Department of Nutrition and Animal Feed.
1. Nutritional Biochemistry Laboratory
This laboratory is responsible for developing the field of biochemistry in microbial cells, animal cells and plant cells and their application to livestock performance in a comprehensive and sustainable manner, led by Dr. Ir. Chusnul Hanim, M.Sc., IPM., ASEAN Eng. The laboratory is equipped with units of chemical, enzyme, microbiological and molecular analysis equipment from biological preparations, feed ingredients and livestock products. 2. Forage and Pasture Science Laboratory
This laboratory has the responsibility of the forage, pasture, and animal nutrition disciplines. The laboratory is led by Prof. Dr. Ir. Bambang Suhartanto, DEA., IPU. 3. Animal Nutrition Laboratory
This laboratory is responsible for developing the science of animal feed ingredients and animal nutrition, and is led by R. Edwin Indarto, S.Pt., M.P. This laboratory also conducts chemical analysis which includes chemical components of feed ingredients, minerals and energy of feed ingredients, secondary metabolite compounds, evaluation of nutrient utilization in polygastric and monogastric livestock, and development of functional feeds. 4. Feed Technology Laboratory
This laboratory is responsible for developing the field of animal feed and nutrition technology, and is led by Prof. Dr. Ir. Ali Agus, DAA, DEA., IPU., ASEAN Eng.
