Two Reasearchers of Faculty of Animal Science Received Award from MURI

Two researchers from the Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM, namely Prof. Dr. Ir. Ali Agus, DAA., DEA., IPU., ASEAN. Eng and Ir. Dyah Maharani, S.Pt., M.P., Ph.D., IPM received an award from the Indonesian Record Museum (MURI) for their research in making a complete feed fermentation technology “feed burger” and a DNA marker tool. The awards were given online on Thursday (6/8).

“Complete feed fermentation technology “burger feed “has been developed since the last 15 years. The development of feed technology is based on the fact that generally beef cattle breeders provide feed in the form of straw, corn sugarcane, and concentrate feed derived from agricultural and industrial waste such as rice bran, coffee husks, cocoa, etc. which have relatively low nutritional quality,” Ali said after receiving the award, Thursday (6/8). read more

This was revealed by the Head of the Department of Livestock Socio-Economics, Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM, Ir. F. Trisakti Haryadi, S.Pt., M.Si., Ph.D., IPM in the Obrolan Peternakan (OPERA) which was held online on Saturday (1/8). read more

Management and Selection of Goats

The need for animal protein can be fulfilled through consumption of meat, one of which is small ruminants such as goats. Goats are a type of small ruminant that has the potential to be developed in Indonesia, therefore, their productivity needs to be increased. Increasing livestock productivity is one of the things that are expected by many breeders, a proper strategy is needed so that the increase in livestock productivity can be realized.

This was discussed in the OPERA discussion session 6, Special Edition of General Lecture on July 25, 2020 with the theme of management and selection of goat livestock. This discussion provided an overview of good maintenance and selection management for goats by presenting two speakers, namely Prof. Mulumebet Worku, Ph.D (North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, United States) and Dr. Ir. Fera Mahmilia, M.P (Head of Goat Research Workshop). read more
