Ahmad Romadhoni explained, animal husbandry is a biological industry that is run using biotechnology engineering. “From an engineering perspective, livestock is a biological machine that produces high-quality food in the form of meat, eggs, and milk from raw materials in the form of feed grains and forages,” he said. The structure of the livestock industry is also complete, including upstream in the form of the breeding industry, feed industry, animal medicine industry, and equipment industry. Poultry downstream includes the processing and distribution of livestock products.
The Faculty of Animal Science UGM, he stated, does not merely study in a room and then take care of cattle. FAS UGM students also study nutrition and animal feed science, animal production science, animal breeding and reproduction science, technology (processing) of livestock products and animal husbandry socio-economic science. “For basic courses, all students must enter the cage. But then, students can choose courses according to the concentration chosen. Many subjects whose activities are in the laboratory, do not always have to go into a animal housing,” he said. (*)
