Started construction in mid-2022, the International Training Center Cage-Free Innovation and Welfare Hub has been completed and inaugurated on June 16, 2023. The International Training Center (ITC) Cage-Free Innovation and Welfare Hub is a training center for the management of cage-free laying hens established by the Faculty of Animal Science UGM in collaboration with Global Food Partners and AERES University of Applied Sciences Netherlands. Besides being a training facility, the ITC Cage-Free Innovation and Welfare Hub also features a model farm for egg production with a cage-free system, capable of housing 3000 hens. The Faculty of Animal Science UGM held a warm-hearted halalbihalal activity which became a meeting across generations. This event was held on Wednesday, 3 May 2023 at ASLC Building. This activity is an annual agenda by inviting all lecturers and staff, both those who have retired and those who are still active. Students of Faculty of Animal Science UGM enthusiastically took part in a public lecture on the topic of Biosecurity which was held at the Auditorium drh. R. Supardjo (28/2). The resource person in this public lecture is a team from the Northern Territory, Australia. This activity is part of The Indonesia-Northern Territory Biosecurity Program, which is a cooperation program between Indonesia and the Northern Territory Government, Australia in the field of biosecurity that has been implemented since 2012. Along with the increasing consumption of eggs due to population growth, causing breeders to find ways to maximize livestock productivity. One of the laying hen farming techniques commonly used so far is the battery-cage farming system where the livestock can move freely in the cage. In addition to this system, there is now a new system that allows poultry to move more freely, namely the cage-free farming system. Cage-free farming system does not use cages, thus allowing livestock to live like in the wild according to their natural habitat. In developed countries, poultry farmers have started to switch to using the cage-free system because it is considered to be pro-animal welfare. read more
