18 fresh graduates of animal science study programs from 7 universities in Indonesia completed the Work Based Academy (WBA) program in July 2020. The program with the theme Broiler Closed House Management is a collaboration between the Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM and PT. Charoen Pokphand Indonesia with the aim of preparing skilled human resources in the world of the poultry industry.
“The WBA program provides skills in the poultry industry to fresh graduates with a degree in animal science, especially the maintenance of broilers using closed house technology. Tropical countries like Indonesia with high humidity and temperatures often cause stress for chickens so that productivity is low. The existence of a closed house allows the environment to be adjusted to the needs of livestock so that livestock productivity will be better. However, there are still few skilled human resources to manage the technology,” said the Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science UGM, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ali Agus, DAA., DEA., IPU. ASEAN. Eng. when closing the WBA program online on Monday (10/8).
President Director of PT. Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk., Dr (H.C) Thomas Effendy said, the WBA Batch # 1 program, a collaboration between the Faculty of Animal Science UGM and PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk. is a tremendous breakthrough in building superior human resources for the poultry industry.
“The challenge now is to produce efficient broiler farms so that they can compete with countries like Brazil. The livestock industry in Brazil is very efficient, so that they have the largest market share in the world. If we don’t use technology to increase efficiency, of course we won’t be able to compete. Therefore, human resources are the main key,” said Thomas, who was also present at the WBA closing ceremony.
General Manager of Human Capital PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk., Ir. M. Syafri Afriansyah added, through the mini-project that was carried out, each participant could improve the Complex Problem Solving which is a current skill requirement and must be owned by the human resources of the poultry industry. In addition, the resulting mini-project can provide input in improving company management. The WBA program will be continued periodically as a means of providing skills for graduates of the animal science study program.
The participants took part in the WBA program for six months starting from February 2020 to July 2020. The competencies that the participants gained included the use of closed houses, MEE (mechanical, electrical and energy), broiler farm partnership systems, nutrition and management of broiler feed, as well as welfare and broiler health.
