56 livestock engineers were inaugurated on Wednesday (19/1) online and offline at the University Club Hotel together with engineers from the UGM Faculty of Engineering. Among the 56 engineers, 17 people came from the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.
“We congratulate all the inauguration participants. Through the engineer program, participants not only get “two in one” but “four in one”, namely obtaining an engineer’s degree, a professional engineer certificate, an Engineer Registration Certificate (STRI), and a Kagama card. Hopefully these 4 things will lead us to dedicate ourselves to our professions in our respective institutions in order to advance public welfare, educate the nation’s life, give value to benefits, goodness, and civility throughout the country for the welfare of mankind. Congratulations on devoting yourself to the engineering profession at your respective institutions,” said the Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ali Agus, DAA., DEA., IPU., ASEAN. Eng when giving a remark at the inauguration ceremony.
The Dean added that this inauguration period was special because there were two ministers who were inaugurated as engineers, namely the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, Ir. Pedro dos Reis, L.Agp., M.Sc., IPU (undergraduated in the engineering program at the Faculty of Animal Science UGM) and the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Ir. Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, M.M., IPU (undergoing the engineering program at the Faculty of Engineering UGM).
Chairman of the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII), Dr. Ir. Heru Dewanto, M.Sc., (Eng), IPU., ASEAN Eng. said that PII would like to thank UGM for consistently implementing the engineering program to produce 1367 alumni and placing UGM as the first in producing engineers.
“Engineering is essentially a journey. First, academic education, then profession, namely developing the competence of engineers so that they become professional engineers at the international level. We call this long journey the engineering value chain. With the existence of the engineering law, the engineering value chain is formulated and facilities and infrastructure are prepared so that it becomes a roadmap for professional engineers at the world level. This process is called engineering transformation,” said Heru.
Heru added that engineering is transformation itself. Engineers play an important role in determining the civilization of human history, namely with the findings and innovations that bring humans from one civilization to the next. Engineers also play an important role in solving world problems towards the common goals set out in the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including the issue of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Director General of Higher Education of Education Ministry of Indonesia, Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc., Ph.D., IPM, ASEAN Eng. congratulated engineers on working under the banners of PII and UGM, in his remark.
“Congratulations on building the country, building the sovereignty of the nation and state in technology, infrastructure, with integrity and upholding the ethics and dignity of Indonesian engineers,” said Nizam.
Ir. Pedro dos Reis, L.Agp., M.Sc., IPU who gave a remark representing the inauguration participants from the Livestock Engineer Professional Study Program said that this is a new skill and history for Timor Leste because it has earned the trust of UGM.
“We will disseminate the acquired knowledge and technology and as Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, together with our fellow engineers who have been appointed, will try to establish a good working relationship and promise that the cooperation will not stop. We will also socialize it to friends who have not yet taken engineering courses,” said Pedro.
Head of the Livestock Engineer Professional Study Program UGM, Dr. Ir. Sigit Bintara, M.Sc., IPU., ASEAN. Eng when contacted on Thursday (20/1) said that the inaugurated livestock engineers are graduates of the Professional Program who are ready to take part in the world of livestock.
“It should be noted that the Faculty of Animal Science UGM opens the Livestock Professional Program in two programs, namely the regular program and the recognition of Past Learning (RPL) program. For this reason, I invite animal science graduates who already have 2 years of work experience to join the regular Engineer Professional Program. And those who already have 5 years of work experience can join the RPL Engineer Professional Program,” said Sigit. (Nadia)
