Lecturer of Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM implemented an education for sustainable development (ESD) for the Yogyakarta Sheep Goat Farmers Association Group on Saturday (4/5) in Kalasan, Sleman.
“The activities carried out in the form of training sessions on the use of Gama Grass as a complete feed with a total mix ration method to create a sustainable system. We also introduce the improvement quality of fertilizers from sheep manure,” said Ir. Nafiatul Umami, S.Pt., M.P., Ph.D., IPM as the head of the service team in the release sent on Monday (6/5).
Nafiatul added, the purpose of ESD is to invite farmers to do sustainability in their business. At present, farmers have planted Gama Grass and animal feed but have not applied the total mix ratio method.
“The advantage of total mix ration method is that livestock can consume complete feed according to their needs because the feed is served completely at one time. In addition, this method saves farmers’ time because it is only given once,” Nafiatul explained.
Besides Nafiatul, two FAS UGM lecturers, namely Insani Hubi Zulfa, S.Pt., M.Sc. and Novita Kurniawati, S.Pt., M.App.Sc., also became speakers at the event. In the training attended by 54 breeders, participants practiced making a total mix of ration and giving it to livestock and conducted physical testing of manure compost. (Humas Fapet/Nadia)
