Consumption of protein in Indonesia is still far behind compared to other countries. Milk for example, Indonesia still importing as much as 70-90% of the total requirement. One of the things that can be used to overcome this problem is the quality of human resources in livestock.

This was revealed by Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs Faculty of Animal Science UGM, Budi Guntoro, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D. in the graduation ceremony of undergraduate student on Wednesday (17/5/2017) at the Faculty of Animal Science. According to Budi, livestock graduates should be able to change the mindset of traditional farmers. However, this does not mean eliminating the role of rural farmers who manage 90% of the livestock sector in the traditional way.

"The government still wants to maintained the traditional management, but on the other hand the country also wants an advanced system. Therefore, all systems, both integrated farming system and agribusiness must be driven all forward. Livestock graduates should focus on agribusiness and change the mindset of traditional farmers. One hundred percent business orientation, "explained Budi.

Budi said, to reverse the mindset of traditional farmers, it can not be done naturally. Through regeneration, educated farmers can change the mindset of traditional farmers. The birth of these undergraduate students is expected to meet various lines of livestock, such as livestock-based food processing industry.

Still on the same occasion, Budi read the statistics of the graduates in May 2017. "In this period, the Faculty of Animal Science inaugurate 52 students with an average GPA 3,06. The best graduates student was Tesa Andriana with GPA 3,89. By the graduation of 52 students, until now Faculty of Animal Science has inaugurated 4858 undergraduate students," added Budi.
