Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM Finds Tropical Alfalfa Hatchery Method

Yogyakarta – Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) discovered the method of alfalfa seeding to encourage the realization of Alfalfa Tropic (Alfalfa) seeding in Indonesia. It is because the nutritional content of alfalfa plants is considered very useful in improving the quality of livestock of the community. Even alfalfa has the potential to be a functional food because of its high protein content and also essential amino acids.

This was revealed by Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Collaboration of FAS UGM, Bambang Suwignyo PhD when delivering his research results on the development of dolomite and lighting influences on the generative characteristics of alfalfa plant performance in Indonesia, at the Greenhouse Laboratory of FAS UGM, Yogyakarta, Wednesday ( 3/21/2018). read more

Faculty of Animal Science Initiates Kamis Inggris Program

Office of International Affairs (OIA) Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM initiates Kamis Inggris, a program to facilitate students, lecturers, and staff to practice English. The name Kamis Inggris is selected because in one week there is only one day that ends with is, namely Kamis, which has the same rhyme as Inggris.

It was said by the head of OIA of FAS UGM, Dr. Endy Triyannanto, S.Pt., M.Eng., in the first gathering of Kamis Inggris on Thursday (22/3) at Auditorium Drh. R. Soepardjo FAS UGM. “Ones who have come to this gathering are those who have committed to involve in the Kamis Inggris program. Students, lecturers, and staff who have bought green wristband from OIA FAS UGM have signed a contract to speak English on the days they wear that wristband, especially on Thursdays,” Endy said. read more

Faculty of Animal Science Students Joined Climate Vlogger 2018 Workshop

Two students of Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM, Elisa Hutami Nurunni’mah and Tika Amalia Sholihah, had the chance to join Climate Vlogger 2018 Workshop on 20—22 February 2018 in Banten. The workshop entitled “Workshop on Communicating Climate Issues Through Video Blog” discusses the making of vlog with environment theme. The two students had the chance to join the workshop after their video selected in the selection process.

The workshop is organized to promote students’ capacity in analyzing and thinking critically on climate change. “During the workshop, we get materials on climate change in the world and Indonesia. There’s an interesting video played in the workshop, it’s about the estimation sea level rise as high as 28—29 cm in 2010,” Elisa said on interview on Monday (12/3) in FAS UGM. read more

Indonesia Lacks of 280 Thousand Engineers

Indonesia has been predicted to lack of some 280 thousand engineers in the next five years. The great number of universities in the country cannot meet those demands while currently Indonesia is doing massive infrastructure works which needs a great number of engineers and thus became a destination country among foreign engineers.

“A number of countries have lobbied the Indonesian Engineers Association to enter into a project in the country,” said Deputy Head of the Association, Ir. Heru Dewanto, M.Eng., IPM., during the inauguration of 30 engineers who have completed professional engineers programme at UGM on Wednesday (7/3) in the Senate Hall. read more

29 Graduates of FAS UGM Achieve Cumlaude

29 graduates of Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM achieve cum laude on February 2018 graduation period. The total amount of graduates are 67.

It was said by Dean of FAS UGM, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ali Agus, DAA., DEA., IPM when delivered a remark on a graduation celebration on Wednesday (21/2) at the Auditorium Drh. R. Soepardjo FAS UGM. “I’m proud of the graduates. I hope that these fresh graduates can strengthen the big companies in livestock sector,” the Dean said.

The Dean added, the livestock industry keeps evolving now and needs a qualified human resources. “You have an important role in preparing high quality livestock products,” he said in front of the graduates. read more
