Two students of Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM, Elisa Hutami Nurunni’mah and Tika Amalia Sholihah, had the chance to join Climate Vlogger 2018 Workshop on 20—22 February 2018 in Banten. The workshop entitled “Workshop on Communicating Climate Issues Through Video Blog” discusses the making of vlog with environment theme. The two students had the chance to join the workshop after their video selected in the selection process.

The workshop is organized to promote students’ capacity in analyzing and thinking critically on climate change. “During the workshop, we get materials on climate change in the world and Indonesia. There’s an interesting video played in the workshop, it’s about the estimation sea level rise as high as 28—29 cm in 2010,” Elisa said on interview on Monday (12/3) in FAS UGM.

“The today’s unusual climate change becomes a serious threat for the living of human, fauna, and biodiversity. The rise of earth temperature has reached 1,40 C—5,80 C and if it is more than 20 C in this century, there will be extinction especially in the polar and tropical regions,” said Elisa who has a hobby in making videos.

According to Elisa, vlog is useful to complete someone’s knowledge, in this case is about environment issues. “Vlog can spread information fast. Besides that, learning by watching videos is more interesting than reading many pages of books. The point is, the material on environment will be more communicative when it is shared through vlog,” she said.

The video made by her is about the environment in Yogyakarta, a city that looks clean but still there are rivers full of waste, flood in the sandy areas, and waste burning that cause air pollution. “Through this video, we offer a solution to plant more trees,” Elisa said.

Elisa and Tika obtained worthy experiences from the workshop. Besides obtaining knowledge on world climate change, they also obtain books on climate issues. “The more interesting thing is that we can meet friends from many universities in Indonesia who also have the same concern towards the environment,” Elisa said.
