A unique innovation from UGM students has created bricks made from cattle manure, especially cow manure. This innovation, named “Batako Bawono,” is the result of a collaboration between Nauziyah Azuardini and Yossi Dyah Listiana (Animal Science and Industry, 2022), Dinda Ramadhan and Zaenal Arif (Veterinary Technology, 2022), and Muhammad Rakan Arrandhi (Civil Infrastructure Management and Maintenance Engineering, 2023), under the supervision of Ir. Annisa’ Qurrotun A’yun, S.Pt., M.Sc., IPP from Faculty of Animal Science UGM. The “Batako Bawono” program is funded through the Student Creativity Program in the Community Service category.
Five students of Universitas Gadjah Mada are assisting the Mitra Karya Sejahtera Disability Empowerment Group (KPD) in Gunungkidul with stingless bee farming. This initiative aims to tackle unemployment caused by low self-esteem and limited job accessibility for the disabled community. Stingless bee farming is well-suited for the KPD Mitra Karya Sejahtera as it requires low investment, minimal physical activity, and is safe for people with disabilities.
The group of students participating in this Student Creativity Program (PKM) are from Faculty of Animal Science: Aliya Rahmawati Nurkhasanah, Desta Lovefiyana Nurpita, and Satriya Putra Pratama. They joined with Muhammad Fahmi Rafsanjani from the Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM and Paras Ardina Aya Shopya from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM. The team is supervised by Moh. Sofi’ul Anam, S.Pt., M.Sc., lecturer from Faculty of Animal Science UGM. Recognizing the importance of empowering the disabled to enhance their skills and support their income sources, the team not only provides assistance but also trains the participants in stingless bee farming, specifically with the klanceng bee (Trigona sp.).
Faculty of Animal Science (Fapet) UGM participated in IndoLivestock 2024 from July 17-19, 2024, at the Jakarta Convention Center. At this event, Faculty of Animal Science UGM showcased several top innovative products such as Genaglow (the first goat collagen drink in Indonesia), Lowkol (a probiotic milk innovation to lower cholesterol), Lowcose, Dieteic Feed, Immunobooster, Pennisetum purpureum var. Gama umami (a mutation of Pennisetum purpureum irradiated with gamma rays to produce superior grass compared to its parent), Toxin Binder x Fenanza, Fapet EGG, and Sonix.
Ilham Fakhri Arunika Achieves Outstanding Success in Indoor Hockey Championship with UGM Hockey Team
Ilham Fakhri Arunika, a 2019 student of Faculty of Animal Science, together with the UGM Hockey Team, achieved remarkable success in the world indoor hockey championship. At the Sleman Regency Championship, Ilham and the UGM Hockey Team performed brilliantly, securing first place, outshining other competitors at the regency level.
“This success was further perfected by his achievement at the national IHR ISTN XIX championship one week later, where Ilham secured third place,” said his academic advisor Dr. Ir. Endy Triyannanto, S.Pt., M.Eng., IPM., ASEAN Eng., on Thursday (18/7).
Delegates from Asian universities, part of The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) University Consortium, attended The 9th University Consortium Graduate Forum 2024 themed “Sustaining Our Future: Circular Economy in Animal Production, Agriculture, and Forestry” held on July 17-18, 2024, in Yogyakarta.
Universities represented at the forum included University of the Philippines Los Banos, Central Luzon State University, Central Mindanao University, Visayas State University, Kasetsart University, Maejo University, National Taiwan University, Tokyo University of Agriculture, Universiti Putra Malaysia, UGM, IPB University, and Universitas Brawijaya.
