Pennisetum purpureum var. Gama umami Leads UGM Innovator to Win Widhi Catha Satwa Nugraha Awards 2024

The innovator behind Pennisetum purpureum var. Gama umami from Faculty of Animal Science (Fapet) UGM, Prof. Ir. Nafiatul Umami, SPt., MP., PhD., IPM., ASEAN Eng, along with Prof. Dr. Ir. Bambang Suhartanto, DEA., IPU., and Dr. Teguh Wahyono, S.Pt., M.Si., have been nobled with Widhi Catha Satwa Nugraha Award  in Indolivestock Research and Innovation Awards 2024 in the Goat and Sheep category. The awards ceremony took place on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at the Jakarta Convention Center.

Nafiatul Umami stated that in the competition, she and her team presented their research titled “Superior Gama Umami (Pennisetum purpureum Var. Gama Umami): A Biomass Fiber Feed Source for Ruminants.” read more

Faculty of Animal Science UGM Conducts Work Competency Certification for Students

As an effort to improve students’ competencies in the field of poultry farming, the Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Gadjah Mada University (UGM) organized Work Competency Certification (PSKK) 2024 with the Broiler Farm Supervisor scheme from July 4-6, 2024. This certification was attended by 20 students from undergraduate, engineer, and postgraduate (master’s and doctoral) levels.

This certification was held in collaboration with the Indonesian Animal Science Professional Certification Institute (LSP PI) and the Faculty of Animal Science UGM, which is one of the Competency Test Places (TUK). The main objective of this certification is to enhance work competencies and obtain a certificate from the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP), where students undergo a series of exams to be declared competent and receive certification as broiler farm supervisors. The series of exams include a written test on broiler farm materials and their handling, a practical test on broiler farm management, and an interview. read more

DryFarm Community Service Team from UGM Develops 3E Precision Agriculture Transformation Based on Agroedutainment and Smart Innovation in Ngawis 2, Gunungkidul

Gunungkidul is a region supplying food needs such as rice, legumes, corn, and chili in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. Currently, food needs are very crucial. This is because the domestic food supply has not yet met consumer demand. Moreover, according to the National Food Agency’s Food Balance Report, all of Indonesia’s strategic food needs cannot be fulfilled with domestic production, resulting in the necessity to import several primary food items.

Based on observations with the chairman of Karang Taruna Harapan Jaya in Ngawis 2, several agricultural problems were identified, including pests, declining land productivity, drought, simple fertilization methods, and outdated agricultural systems. Addressing these issues is essential since Ngawis 2 has natural and human resources with potential for further development. read more

Faculty of Animal Science UGM Sets MURI Record for Largest Milk Distribution and Consumption Event with 11,150 Students

Faculty of Animal Science UGM has broken the MURI record for the largest milk distribution and consumption event, involving 11,150 students participated in the record. The record-breaking event included 7,162 UGM KKN students and 3,988 students from various faculties at UGM.

Prof. Ir. Budi Guntoro, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng., Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science, stated that the record-breaking event was held to commemorate World Milk Day as part of the XI Lustrum of Faculty of Animal Science and the XV Lustrum of Universitas Gadjah Mada. read more
