“Through the 2017 Sate Festival, Fapet UGM wants to contribute in maintaining and improving the effort in national food sovereignty,” said Dean of Fapet UGM Prof. Dr. Ali Agus on his statement in Yogyakarta, Wednesday (8/11).

Prof Ali explained, the livestock sector has a very important role to help the State to achieve food sovereignty, especially when the farms produce a large number of livestock products such as meat.

Processed meat itself, he explained, are quite many to be found and one of the most popular processed meat products in the community is sate.

“Therefore, a series of activities in order to celebrate it’s 48th Anniversary, Faculty of Animal Science wants to launch Sate Festival 2017, where one of the special aspects of the festival is a culinary diversity with meat as a base, and is a superior product in Animal Science,” explained Prof. Ali .

In line with the above statement, Chairman of the Sate Festival 2017, Dr Endy Triyannanto PhD said, variations of processed sate with a distinctive flavor of the Nusantara is an activity to highlight the processed animal products.

“As a way to improve the brand image of the livestock processed products and increase protein consumption among the community,” he said.

In order to achieve the goal, he said, Fapet will cooperate with various parties including sate seller association in Yogyakarta Special Region, Yogyakarta Association of Sheep and Goat Entrepreneurs (PPDKY), Yogyakarta Foodtruck community, Bank BRI, and other groups.

“Even Ketoprak RRI will collaborate with Fapet UGM to perform ketoprak titled ‘Layung Wilwatikta’, and enlivened by Albasia saman and Rythmic Charolaise band,” said Endy.

In addition to provide sate variations on the market and increasing public interest to consume processed animal products, they also want to increase community insight about various kinds of processed livestock products and preserve the Indonesian culture that already born and inherited from generation to generation.

“Besides that, tenants or sate vendors can utilize this event as a promotional event to increase sales in their outlets, so it is expected that all the goals on this activity can be well-broadcasted among the community,” said Endy who is also  a lecturer in Science and Meat Technology Laboratory of Fapet UGM.
