To develop the science with adequate facility, Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is going to build Animal Science Learning Center (ASLC), a five-floor building equipped with high technology laboratory equipment.

It was said by Dean of FAS UGM, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ali Agus, DAA., DEA., IPU, Friday (8/6) in UGM after signing documents on building specification proposal and equipment through JICA IP-567 scheme. “FAS has a vision to be one of the best animal science faculties in Asia. Therefore, we have to keep developing ourself both in the science and facilities since the two things should support each other,” the Dean said.

FAS UGM has already contributed to the UGM achievements. In 2017, the publication ratio of FAS lecturers is the highest among 20 faculties in the UGM. “FAS UGM also has conducted the mandate of UGM Rector to contribute in the national development. FAS organizes free lectures for farmers called Bagimu Petani Kami Mengabdi,” the Dean said. The alumni of the first period even has established Koperasi Rojo Koyo Gama Mandiri with the main business in livestock products.

“By building the ASLC, it is expected that the science development and its benefits for the nation will go hand in hand. Sufficient facilities will promote lecturers’ productivity in implementing Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi. The students will also obtain better infrastructure so that the enrichment and transfer of the science will be facilitated well,” the Dean said. Besides that, the developing science will be able to answer livestock challenge in the future. The institution growth and development will go in accordance with the contribution to promote livestock for the nation.

The Signing of Building Specification Proposal

In the signing of the building specification proposal, Rector of UGM, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng, said in his remark that the existence of the centers (including ASLC) can promote university achievement. The rise of UGM rank from 402 (QS-WU version) to 391 is the result of collaboration and hard work of many parties that is worth to be appreciated.

ASCL of FAS UGM becomes one of the 10 centers in UGM developed through the JICA collaboration. Besides FAS UGM, other faculties who also build a center are Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Forestry, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Engineering, and Vocational School. (Nadia)
