Faculty of Animal Science UGM opened new programme, namely Livestock Engineering Prefession Programme. The programme established to produce engineer in livestock that are competent, moralized, strong, independent, skilled, and professional. In addition, the competition in ASEAN continue to increase since workers from ASEAN are free to enter Indonesia.

This was revealed by Head of Livestock Engineering Prefession Programme, Prof. Dr. Ir. By registering and attending lectures during the programme, the graduate students will earn degree as engineer. After graduate, they still need to be tested their professionalism by professional organizations, i.e Association of Indonesian Engineers (PII),” explain Zuprizal. Certificate of Engineer issued by PII valid in international world so that all the fresh graduates can compete in ASEAN Economic Community (MEA).

Zuprizal added that the programme established based on Rector’s Decree No: 940/UN.1.P/SK/HUKOR/2017 dated on 20 June 2017. There are 2 paths in Livestock Engineering Prefession Programme, namely Past Learning Recognition path (based on Law Number 11 Year 2014 Article 7 Paragraph 3) and regular path. Past Learning Recognition path (RPL) marked for them who already earned engineering degree (Ir) and already worked for 5 years. RPL participants are no longer attending lectures, but they must create portfolio certified by UGM. The regular path required minimum working experience for 2 years. “In regular path, there are no more lecture on basic theory but we’re more focus on livestock industry management,” said Zuprizal.

Livestock Engineering Prefession Programme will be opened in April – Mei 2018. Regular path consists of 24 credits with learning proportion 70% for industry practical and 30% for code of ethics of professionalism and safety of engineering work. “Graduates from professions of engineers in the Indonesian National Qualification Framework (KKNI) entered at level 7. For fresh graduates who accepted as Civil Servants, can directly occupy the rank equivalent to level 7. In addition, companies who hire graduates from professional engineering professions can also guarantee their quality of labor, “Zuprizal explained.

To introduce Livestock Engineering Prefession Programme, Faculty of Animal Science UGM has conducted socialization in East Java and West Java on 18-20 October 2017. Institution targeted for socialization is private university, industry, and livestock service. (Humas Fapet/Nadia)
