Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM student, Laksa Ersa Anugratama, won the best poster award at the KMP UNHAS Scipertion PSP National Scientific Writing Competition held on September 14-15, 2018 with the theme on independent fisheries and marine sector. Together with Lutfiana Pasebhan Jati from the study program of Remote Sensing Study and Geography Information System UGM, Laksa presented a poster entitled “Geospatial Information System Utilization Based on” SACOREEF WEBGIS “as a Coral Reef Conservation Effort in Order to Achieve Sustainable Maritime Development”.
“We selected the theme of coral reef monitoring with geospatial technology that aims to preserve coral reefs and facilitate the processing of geodatabase for marine. Monitoring with this geospatial technology uses WebGIS Sacoreef (Save Coral Reef), “said Laksa.
Laksa added, coral reefs have suffered damage caused by human activities, for example tourism activities that exceed the area’s carrying capacity and pollution and sedimentation.
“To find out the damage, mapping is needed, but it will be difficult if done conventionally. An integrated information system based on WebGIS Sacoreef offers a practical and easy way to support coral reef data management, “explained the 2016 student.
Geospatial technology is currently highly developed and can be utilized in the field of oceanography. Monitoring carried out with this geospatial technology uses sensors from satellites, namely remote sensing and processed with geographic information systems. (Nadia)
