Student of Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM, student year 2015, Johan Indrajaya, made UGM proud at the international level through Acehnese arts. Together with the UGM Acehnese Arts Community (SAKA), Johan attended the 11th International Competition and Festival of Folklore, Dance and Music “Etoiles De Paris” “in Paris, France on May 3-6 2018. In the event, SAKA UGM became Grand Pix Winner.
“I am very pleased and proud to be one of the delegations of representatives from Indonesia, especially UGM, who has taken an active role in international competitions to improve the professionalism of UGM students and to score achievements to make Indonesia proud,” said Johan. In the event, the SAKA team consisting of male and female dancers performed two combined dances, namely the Rapa’i Geleng and Ratoeh Jaroe dances. The UGM team successfully defeated 45 teams from 13 countries.
Johan added, to take part in the festival is not an easy struggle. “I have to be good at managing the time because the training schedule is quite busy. In France, environmental conditions are not the same as in Indonesia, so we need a lot of adaptations to perform optimally,” said Johan who began to enjoy Acehnese art since 2015.
Johan hopes that Acehnese art at UGM, especially in FAS UGM, is growing. “I hope Acehnese art in FAS UGM is increasingly favored by students so that the art can continue to survive. In addition, hopefully FAS UGM can participate in art competitions at national and international levels, “said the student who comes from Ngawi, East Java. (Nadia)
