Studying in Europe is still the most popular choice among students. Continuing studies on the continent provides opportunities for students to learn about the culture of other countries, learn new languages, and experience a different system of lectures.

This was said by lecturer of Laboratory of Meat, Draught, and Companion Animals of FAS UGM, Ir. Tri Satya Mastuti Widi, S.Pt., M.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPM., when sharing tips on studying in Europe during the Kamis Inggris discussion session, Thursday (29/11) at the Rumah Kreatif BRI of FAS UGM.

“Some countries such as England, the Netherlands, Germany, France, and Switzerland accept students from all over the world. There are several reasons for choosing universities in Europe, among them are European universities are the oldest universities and have a high ranking in the world and low tuition fees,” said Vitri who took a doctoral program at Wageningen University, the Netherlands.

Vitri revealed, European universities implement a European Credit System (ECTS) that allows academic credit transfer at all levels of education, ranging from bachelor, master, and doctoral programs. In addition, with a Schengen visa, students are free to travel in 28 European Union member countries.

Vitri gave an example, the Netherlands can be an interesting destination for studying. “In Europe, universities in the Netherlands are the ones that offer a lot of English-taught programs, which are up to more than 2,100 courses. In addition, the Netherlands has a unique teaching and learning process. The teaching system is more interactive and student-centered,” explained Vitri.

To study in Europe, there are a number of things students need to prepare. “Set your priorities and gather as much information as possible about scholarships. The most important thing is to improve your language skills,” Vitri said.

In addition, Vitri added, other preparations that need to be done are apply for passports, studying the scholarship application carefully, starting registering during the period of seeking scholarships or funding, and preparing well for interviews. (Humas Fapet / Nadia)
