International students from various universities around the world participated in the Asian Agricultural Association of College and University (AAACU) Summer Enrichment Program and the 8th Summer Course Program on Harmony in Animal and Agricultural Production for Global Food Security from July 21 to August 3, 2024, at the Faculty of Animal Science UGM.
The participants hailed from the Philippines, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, the United States, India, and Pakistan.
In his opening remarks, the Dean Faculty of Animal ScienceUGM, Prof. Ir. Budi Guntoro, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng., stated that the theme of the program highlights innovative strategies, technologies, and best practices aligned with livestock production, environmental conservation, and sustainable food systems.
“We gather here with a shared enthusiasm for learning and a commitment to advancing our understanding of agriculture and animal husbandry,” Budi said.
Budi noted that as the global population grows, there is an increasing demand for food. This situation, from an environmental perspective, poses new threats such as greenhouse gas emissions, land use, and water consumption issues.
“This program is designed to combine academic learning, practical experience, and direct interaction with experts in the field,” he added.

“Yogyakarta is known as an excellent place to study. But don’t forget, there is much to learn here, including culture and spirituality,” Wiratni said.
Throughout the program, students will be taught by 17 lecturers, 15 of whom are international lecturers from Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, the Netherlands, Japan, and South Korea.
