Korean Students: Practicum at FAS UGM Is Good

Two Kangwon National University (KNU) students, Korea, Doyoung Kim and Jun Gyu Choi, are currently taking a student exchange program at the Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM during the odd semester of 2018/2019 school year. Both were impressed with the practicum at FAS UGM.

“One thing that is very different from our campus is practicum. In my opinion, the practicum at FAS UGM is good. There is no practicum at my campus,” Doyoung said when being interviewed at the FAS UGM campus on Friday (10/26). Both of them said that the practicum makes them study harder because they had to take the pre-test and post-test.

Doyoung and Jun Gyu took four courses at FAS UGM, namely Feed Technology and Fabrication, Meat Science and Technology, Non-Ruminant and Poultry Rations, and Livestock Project Planning and Evaluation.

According to Doyoung, there are many differences between life in Korea and Indonesia. At KNU, the lecture starts at 9 am and the last class finishes at 6 pm. Meanwhile, the morning class at FAS UGM starts at 7.15. The weather in Indonesia is too hot compared to Korea.

“But everything is still fun. Indonesian people are very friendly. Indonesia’s natural scenery is also very beautiful. Next year I will invite my family to visit Indonesia. Maybe even when I retire, I will live in Indonesia, ” said Doyoung.

Doyoung and Jun Gyu hope that in the future there will be more graduates from animal science. “In this world, people consume meat and other livestock products. Farming science is needed because it is closely related to the needs of human life, ” said Doyoung who will return to Korea on December 24, 2018. (Nadia)
