Industry 4.0. changing all industrial sectors including the livestock sector. The internet of things-IoT, big data, machine learning, artificial intelligence-AI, robots, and the sharing economy are the new faces of today’s industry. Through Obrolan Peternakan (OPERA) series # 2 on June 12, 2020, the Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM explained several platforms that utilize the latest technology to optimize livestock business.
Galuh Adi Insani, S.Pt., M.Sc., lecturer at FAS UGM as well as Chief Marketing Officer of BroilerX said, in terms of natural resources and genetic resources, Indonesia is richer than Singapore. However, Singapore is superior because it controls the Internet of Things, big data, and so on.
Galuh explained that the BroilerX application he developed was concerned with the fact that livestock performance is influenced by genetic and environmental factors. However, the interaction between genetics and the environment is often forgotten by people because of imbalances/difficulties. For example, there is an inhibiting factor in raising chickens, namely stress. No matter how big the input is, the results are still not good because chickens experience stress.
Based on this, BroilerX presents a solution in the form of the Internet of Things that can read environmental conditions and then process it in machine learning. The connected machines will adjust what the livestock want so that the livestock will give optimal results.
Dalu Nuzlul Kirom, S.T., owner of TERNAKNESIA said, TERNAKNESIA is a livestock business development platform consisting of investment, marketing (market), and fundraising related to food.
“TERNAKNESIA describes the role of technology in supporting business processes in livestock that are developed through technology, from investment, farmer assistance, to the sale of livestock products,” said Dalu.
Dalu added, what needs to be underlined is how this platform plays an important role in breaking the marketing chain so that farmers and buyers are not disadvantaged. This effort is made through the formation of a community of buyers (community buyers), so that they can assist in distribution and provide competitive prices for both producers and consumers.
“Another interesting idea from this platform is to create an online livestock market through the livestock buddy application, so that livestock buyers and breeders can communicate with each other through online media. In addition, TERNAKNESIA made Ternaknesia 2.0, which is a blueprint for product traceability that ensures that breeders’ products are halal and from the feed they provide to a good slaughtering process according to the Shari’a,” Dalu said.
Ray Rezky Ananda, S.Pt., owner of BANTUTERNAK, said that BANTUTERNAK is a digital investment platform that aims to empower breeders. The background of the initiation of BANTUTERNAK is the condition of the population of breeders in Indonesia which is decreasing every year, while consumption of animal protein continues to increase.
“This is our concern because Indonesia could be short of food and of course will rely on imports. Therefore, BANTUTERNAK was established as a livestock partner to disseminate technology and knowledge to breeders,” Ray said.
Ray added, BANTUTERNAK helps empower farmers so that the business they run makes a profit. Technology connects breeders and investors, and provides learning and monitoring to farmers so that their businesses can comply with Standard Operational Procedures to achieve production targets. Currently, BANTUTERNAK has worked with thousands of breeders in various regions in Indonesia. Farmers are provided with assistance from purchasing seeds, concentrate feed, livestock health, and selling livestock. (Nadia)
