Dean of FAS UGM, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ali Agus, DAA, DEA, IPU, ASEAN. Eng said that this activity was a manifestation of the vision and mission of the FAS UGM carried out through DWP to campaign for animal protein nutrition that was affordable and useful to prevent stunting and build children’s intelligence.
Chairman of the DWP Dr. Ir. Chusnul Hanim, M.Sc, IPM, ASEAN. Eng explained as many as 100 cups of pasteurized milk and 1,100 eggs distributed to 70 PAUD children, and 2,000 eggs for Posyandu in Jaban. “Cup milk is from DWP, while eggs are donations from PT Widodo Makmur Poultry to the Indonesian Farmers Harmony Association (HKTI) in Yogyakarta and the Indonesian Association of Wives of Animal Husbandry (IISPI) Widya Andini-Yogyakarta, DWP helps distribute,” he explained.
According to Hanim, understanding the nutrition of animal protein in the form of eggs and milk is important to be implanted in early childhood so that they have good eating behavior, not addicted to instant food. “Of course, also to prevent stunting,” she said.
According to her, eggs are the easiest source of animal protein, preferably children to adults, and the price is low. So that actually every household can provide it every day, only by changing the orientation of family shopping. Likewise with milk, the image that milk is expensive can also be ignored by the availability of fresh milk produced by a cooperative of dairy farmers which is pasteurized in cup packaging which is affordable by children’s pocket money.
Rubiyani, the head of the Kuncup Melati institute, expressed her gratitude to the FAS UGM and hopes that cooperation can continue. Moreover there is a student who has the characteristics of stunting because his weight is below the standard age. “We and the children want to visit the FAS UGM campus to look at livestock there, but do not yet know the procedure,” she said.
Riyani Hadiningsih, head of SPS Mutiara Hati, said that there were 2 students who were receiving supervision and assistance from the local Puskesmas because they were indicated to have been stunted. “Thank you for the help of milk and chicken eggs from DWP Fapet UGM, hopefully it can increase the understanding and awareness of students’ parents to always provide the best nutritious food for their families,” she said.
Previously, FAS UGM had also carried out nutrition promotion on February 23, 2020 in the Posyandu of Jaban hamlet, Sinduharjo, Ngaglik, Sleman. (Nadia)
