Rendy Novianto, student of High School 1 Karangmojo – Gunungkidul won first place in the National High School/Vocational Scientific Writing Competition (LKTIN) held in the framework of Lustrum X Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) Universitas Gadjah Mada.
Rendy and his colleague Tegar Adi Septiawan presented a work entitled The Gender Detectors Based on the Identification of Integrated Sound Frequency Cloud Server Management Systems Towards Modern Animal Husbandry Businesses. He was decided as the winner after presenting his writing in front of 6 judges at the Auditorium drh. R. Soepardjo Fapet UGM on Thursday (9/26). The participants’ presentations on the competition with the theme “Industrial Livestock Technology Innovation Indonesia Industrial Era 4.0” were also witnessed by the participants/groups of other finalists who were accompanied by their respective supervisors.
FAS UGM Dean, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ali Agus, DAA, DEA, IPU, when opening the finalist judging program stated that the livestock world needs young people to contribute their innovations, through a critical thinking process, it is not easy to accept the situation and also not just accept something new. Through this scientific writing competition, high school and vocational students are trained to think, think, and write in scientific papers, then they are required to have the guts to defend their thoughts in front of others.
“The Prophets were also cattle herders. Prophet Sulaiman could talk with animals. We are now trying to continue, by understanding what animals want and need. So that livestock can produce benefits for humans. This is of course through the process of critical and creative thinking, one of the ways we do it today,” he said.
Ali Agus asserted, all finalists were winners, being able to set aside dozens of manuscripts that came from all over Indonesia. In addition, the difference in scores between participants is also quite thin, so for those who have not been selected as champions of 1.2 and 3 only because they have not been lucky, so there is no need to be discouraged. “So to the winners 1 to 3, we hope to continue to develop achievements, especially in the field of animal science. The other finalists will be given entertainment prizes in the form of certificates, and a little money to buy souvenirs,” said Ali Agus after giving a prize to the winner. The certificates are also given to the finalist tutors.
Judging Process
Chair of the LKTIN committee, Dr. Rio Olympias Sujarwanta, S.Pt., M.Sc. explained, this competition aims to socialize as well as introduce the FAS UGM to the public, especially high school students of the same level and foster creativity and innovation in the field of animal science by the younger generation.
As for the prizes, he continued, the first to third winners received prizes in the form of trophies, certificates and coaching money, each with Rp3,000,000, Rp2,000,000 and Rp1,500,000.0. As for the entertainment prizes for finalists, given money of Rp500,000 each participant/group of participants.
In this LKTIN, appeared as the second winner Yasmina Fajri Permata et al from SMK Muhammadiyah 6 Modo High School – Lamongan, East Java with the title of work “PROFIT (Product Feed and Rich Nutrients) Market Organic Waste Management Innovation as Poultry Feed with the Utilization of Biodegradable Maggot (Hermetia illucens)”. The third prize winner was Violanda Arzania Putri from SMA Negeri 3 Metro – Lampung, with a scientific work entitled “The Use of Cat Mustache Herbs in Laying Hens to Produce Functional Eggs as Agencies for Antihypertensive, Antidiabetic, and Diuretic”.
Rio explained, the judging was done after the papers were selected to get 10 finalists. Finalists then present their work before the jury for 20 minutes for each participant. Papers can be compiled by individuals or groups with a maximum of 3 members.
