As many as 26 students from 8 countries attended the 4th Summer Course Program: Integrated Food Security in ASEAN at Faculty of Animal Science UGM from 22-31 July 2019.
Students from Cambodia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, South Korea, Timor Leste, and Ethiopia will learn along with Indonesian students about food security in ASEAN.
Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ali Agus, DAA., DEA., said the summer course was expected to be a forum for these students to exchange views and experience particularly in farming. This was important to do remembering the current world condition related to food security.
“Human beings need food and agricultural sciences are one of the main parts to providing food,” he said, opening the event at the Auditorium of the Faculty on Monday (22/7).
Hence, this event was expected to inspire and motivate the students in building food production for the future. And they can make contributions to a more productive animal science discipline academically.
The summer course participants will attend classes and events on animal husbandry, food security, and agriculture, delivered by lecturers from various countries.
There will also be opportunities for the students to visit farming groups in Yogyakarta as well as doing cultural programme such as angklung and batik.
This year marks the 4th Summer Course done by Faculty of Animal Science with 26 international students and 10 Indonesians students participating from 17 universities and institutions.
The attending universities are University of the Philippines Los Banos, Prince of Songkhla University, Maejo University, Vietnam National University of Agriculture, Royal University of Agriculture Cambodia, Tra Vinh University Vietnam, Seoul National University, Universidade Nacional Timor-Lorosa’e, and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu. Next, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia, International Islamic University Malaysia, Bahir Dar University Ethiopia, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, Universitas Tidar, Core Gateway College, Philippines, and Universitas Gadjah Mada.
