Faculty of Animal Science UGM and Bank Indonesia Promote Halal Industry Development

Faculty of Animal Science UGM, in collaboration with Bank Indonesia (BI) of Yogyakarta Province, continues to promote the development of halal industry in Yogyakarta. One of their initiatives is a collaborative training program for Halal Slaughter Experts (Juleha), held on June 26-27, 2024, at Faculty of Animal Science UGM.

The Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation at Fapet UGM, Prof. Ir. Yuny Erwanto, S.Pt., MP., Ph.D., IPM., stated that this training is the second batch.

“There are around 13 participants from 5 to 6 business units, including slaughter house for cattle and  chicken (RPA and RPH). The first batch had a similar number of participants,” Yuny explained during his opening remarks. read more

Faculty of Animal Science UGM Distributes Sacrificial Cow to Partner Village

Faculty of Animal Science UGM has distributed a sacrificial cow to a partner village in Ngroto, Girimulyo, Kulon Progo. This distribution has been carried out for the past three years.

“The distribution to the partner village has been conducted for the last three years. We managed to obtain 152 kg of meat from the cow slaughtered there yesterday,” said Tian Jihadhan Wankar, Ir. S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPP, Chairperson of Iduladha 1445 H at Faculty of Animal Science UGM.

He added that for this year’s Iduladha, Faculty of Animal Science UGM slaughtered four cows and five goats. The sacrificial meat will be distributed to external parties in need. This activity aligns with the SDGs goal 2, zero hunger; goal 3, good health and well-being; and goal 17, partnerships for the goals. “The meat will be distributed to communities in need,” he added. read more

Training on Forage Land Management Towards Gama Umami Feed Bank

Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Gadjah Mada held a training event for farmers and livestock breeders titled “Training on Forage Land Management Towards Gama Umami Feed Bank” on August 22. This event is part of the activities funded by the Kedaireka Matching Fund grant from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology – Directorate General of Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemendikbudristek – Dikti RI).

The event was held at Faculty of Animal Science Auditorium and attended by 100 livestock breeders and farmers from the Sleman Regency (dairy farmers who were involved in the Kedaireka activities of Faculty of Animal Science), as well as additional participants from Bantul, Kulonprogo, Gunung Kidul, and other regions such as Depok, Pacitan, Pati, and Kendal. This training is part of an effort to ensure feed security available throughout the season through land management and cultivation. The event opened with a speech by Prof. Ir. Budi Guntoro, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng., Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science at Universitas Gadjah Mada. In his speech, he emphasized the Faculty’s commitment to contributing and assisting the community in the field of animal science, particularly feed. Faculty of Animal Science UGM Inaugurates International Training Center Cage-Free Innovation and Welfare Hub

Started construction in mid-2022, the International Training Center Cage-Free Innovation and Welfare Hub has been completed and inaugurated on June 16, 2023. The International Training Center (ITC) Cage-Free Innovation and Welfare Hub is a training center for the management of cage-free laying hens established by the Faculty of Animal Science UGM in collaboration with Global Food Partners and AERES University of Applied Sciences Netherlands. Besides being a training facility, the ITC Cage-Free Innovation and Welfare Hub also features a model farm for egg production with a cage-free system, capable of housing 3000 hens. Located in Kalijeruk Village, Ngemplak District, Sleman Regency, DIY, the ITC Cage-Free Innovation and Welfare Hub is the first cage-free system model in ASEAN. read more
