UGM Student Team Wins National Environmental Debate Competition

Student debate team from UGM, led by Razif Raihan Rasyid from the Faculty of Animal Science, Class of 2021, won the national environmental debate competition organized by the IKN Authority at Mulawarman University, East Kalimantan, from June 12-14, 2024. In addition to Razif, the UGM debate team included Hasan (Faculty of Geography) and Ana (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences). The competition consisted of four stages: essay selection, online preliminary rounds, and the semifinal and final rounds at Mulawarman University.

Razif mentioned that the debate competition was attended by 85 teams from various universities across Indonesia. “The number of participants demonstrates the high interest and concern of students regarding environmental issues,” Razif explained on Monday (June 24).

He added that after passing a rigorous selection process, the team advanced to the final round held on June 13, 2024. In the final, they showcased their argumentative skills and provided solutions related to environmental issues in the IKN development process.

The debate topic was about the impact and management of environmental issues in the development of IKN. The team demonstrated a deep understanding and presented innovative solutions to the issue, convincing the judges and winning the championship. This achievement not only brought pride to the Faculty of Animal Science UGM but also contributed positively to the national discussion on sustainable development in Indonesia.
