Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM will focus on internationalization in order to welcome the 50th anniversary on November 10, 2019 and this will be continued for the next few years. These goals have been started with several important steps, namely conducting bench marking, increasing the number of students from abroad, and completing laboratory facilities and farms with integrated modern industrial concepts.
“In the next five years, FAS UGM targets to be the best 10 in tropical countries in higher education in the field of animal science. “Steps in a systematic and structured manner are manifested in international seminars and bench markings to well-known institutions,” said the Dean of FAS UGM, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ali Agus, DAA., DEA., IPU, when met at FAS UGM Campus, Thursday (1/17).
In addition, FAS UGM will increase the number of students from abroad. “Currently there are two students from Vietnam and Cambodia who are studying the Master’s program at FAS. In the future, more foreign students will be encouraged to study here,” explained the Dean.
In terms of curriculum, FAS UGM will be oriented in technological changes that support food production, especially livestock products. Technology will be designed in such a way as to support livestock production.
“We plan to build a modern integrated urban farming, that is a farm in the middle of the city. This will be done because in the next 10-20 years the land in Java which is intended as the development of food-producing agriculture will be narrower. “The existing animal housing is the closed house that has just been inaugurated,” said the Dean.
The Dean added, FAS UGM’s golden anniversary will be enlivened by alumni gathering and promotion of consumption of livestock products, such as eggs and milk.
“Promotion of consuming livestock products is important so that the younger generation is healthy, strong, and nutritious enough. “The role of animal science in providing animal protein is vital because food cannot be replaced by other ingredients,” said the Dean.(Nadia)
