The young generation must be able to create jobs, especially the labor-based jobs. The 2015 BPS data on the Indonesian workforce shows that the workforce of less educated workers (elementery school, junior high school, and senior high school) reached 88.93% and the workforce of educated workers (diploma, academy and university) was 11.07%.

This was stated by the Regent of Kulon Progo, dr. H. Hasto Wardoyo, Sp.Og (K) when delivering the material in the Entrepreneurship Seminar held by the Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM, Friday (11/30) at the Drh. R. Soepardjo Auditorium of FAS UGM.

“The younger generation is the agent of change, I hope you can break the order. Take advantage of the abundance in this disruption era. The rivals are not easy, so you have to fight, ” Hasto said. In addition, Hasto said that balanced soft skills and hard skills must be owned by the younger generation.

Hasto added, in order to build an independent economy, innovation and revolution were needed. “Revolution is more important because it contains innovation and changes in perspective,” he said.

According to Hasto, one of the mindset that needs to be built in the young generation is the spirit of loving Indonesian products. “If you love Indonesia, buy Indonesian products. For this reason, pro-people policies must be made,” he said.

Meanwhile, Leni Nurhandini, Bantuternak business development and marketing staff, who was also a speaker at the event, revealed that the current generation is directed to be a digital entrepreneur because of the high penetration of internet users.

“Internet users in Indonesia have reached 143.26 out of the 262 million population in Indonesia. From these data, the most users are 19-34 years old, which is 49.52%,” she said.

Leni said, the younger generation is expected to be an entrepreneur rather than just being a businessman. “Businesspeople start businesses from the existing ideas or concepts, are more traditional, play safe, and are profit oriented. Meanwhile, entrepreneurs start businesses from their own ideas and concepts, innovative, dare to take risks, and oriented towards employees, customers, and the public,” he explained. (Nadia)
