The 2022 batch Team 2 from the Faculty of Animal Science at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has achieved an impressive milestone by securing first place in the National Essay Competition organized by the University of Indonesia. The event, held on January 18, 2025, saw participation from dozens of teams representing various universities across Indonesia.
Team 2 of Fapet UGM captivated the judges with their essay titled “ECOBRIT: Innovation of Biocharcoal Briquettes from Broiler Litter as an Environmentally Friendly Fuel to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emission.” This groundbreaking work introduced ECOBRIT, an innovative biocharcoal briquette made from broiler litter waste.
“ECOBRIT offers an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional fuels, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions compared to petroleum-based options,” explained Salma Nur Azizah, one of the team members, during an interview on Friday (January 24). Salma collaborated on the project with teammate Mohammad Rizky Zulfahmi under the guidance of Ir. Galuh Adi Insani, S.Pt., M.Sc., IPM.
The essay received high praise from the judges for presenting a tangible solution to pressing global environmental challenges. By transforming broiler waste into a sustainable energy source, the team’s innovation addresses both waste management and climate change mitigation.
Beyond winning the competition, Team 2’s work serves as an inspiration for the younger generation to pursue innovative ideas that positively impact society and the environment.
“We hope that ECOBRIT can be further developed to contribute significantly to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and become a concrete step towards tackling the energy and environmental crises,” the team stated.
This remarkable achievement highlights the creativity and dedication of UGM students in addressing real-world issues, reinforcing the importance of youth-driven innovation in shaping a sustainable future.
