FAS UGM Held Retirement Seminar

Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM held a seminar for lecturers who have entered the retirement period, Prof. Dr. Ir. Sri Harimurti, SU and Dr. Ir. Setiyono, SU on Tuesday (7/1) at the Auditorium Drh. R. Soepardjo FAS UGM. The seminar presented the theme “The Role of Livestock in Producing Healthy Food Products”.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Sri Harimurti, SU is a lecturer at the Poultry Science Laboratory of FAS UGM. In the seminar, Prof. Sri Harimurti presented a presentation on “Probiotics of Indonesian Original Lactic Acid Bacteria as Alternative for Antibiotic Growth Promoters in Poultry: Its Role for Intestinal Health and Food Safety for Meat and Eggs”. Retort Pouch, An Alternative Food Packaging for Disaster-Affected Areas

Indonesia is on the ring of fire which is geographically very vulnerable to natural disasters. One problem that is often encountered is the difficulty of distributing logistics to disaster affected areas that are difficult to reach. For this reason, the idea of ​​packaging food that is durable, ASUH (safe, healthy, whole, and halal), inexpensive, highly nutritious, and easily distributed to disaster areas is needed at this time.

“One alternative food packaging that can preserve and maintain the quality of the product at present is retort pouch packaging, which is military plastic packaging that allows food to be easily distributed to affected areas,” said Dr. Ir. Elisa Christian Joins Cultural Exchange Activities in Three Countries

Elisa Christian, student of the Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM batch 2018, took part in cultural exchange and community service activities in three countries, namely Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. The activity entitled “Saudara Satu Negara” was carried out on 10-17 November 2019.

“In this activity, I attended a Community Development workshop at CoSpace Park National University of Singapore and the University of Malaya, visited a foreign cultural exchange center at the Malaysia Tourism Center (MaTic), and visited an orphanage in Thailand,” Elisa said when contacted Tuesday (3/12) at the FAS UGM campus. FAS UGM Alumnus Becomes Puspiptek Science Ambassador

Alumnus of Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM batch 2014, Nisma Islami Maharani, became the Science Ambassador of the Center for Science and Technology Research (Puspiptek). She was appointed in the 2019 Puspiptek Innovation Festival (PIF) event on 3-6 October 2019.

FAS UGM Students Create Particle Board Prototypes Made from Chicken Feather Waste and Plastic Bottles

Three students of Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM (Imaniar Rusyadi, Fahmi Arrasyid, and Dian Setya Budi), created a particle board prototype based on chicken feathers waste and disposable plastic bottles.

“This innovative product was made as one of the solutions to environmental problems caused by both wastes, which is difficult to decompose naturally. In addition, the availability of both wastes is abundant. According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (2019), broiler production in Indonesia in 2018 will reach 2,144,013 tons. Production of broiler chicken feathers per tail is 9.6% so it can be projected to volume chicken feathers in a year. The production of plastic waste in Indonesia has also reached a serious stage, which is 64 million tons per year and is the second largest in the world,” Imaniar said when met at the FAS UGM campus Friday (11/29). read more
