Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of the Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fapet UGM) conducted an outing activity at Sato Loka Educational Wildlife and Livestock Conservation Park located in Hargobinangun, Pakem, Sleman, on Tuesday (27/1). This annual activity, organized by the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of the Faculty of Animal Science, aims to strengthen the bonds among its members while also providing insights into establishing a family business.

“Through this event, the bonds can be strengthened and at the same time we also gain knowledge in developing a family business. The world today is abuzz with the term “global boiling” due to the drastic increase in average temperatures in various parts of the world. Methane emissions are one of the causes of global boiling. The Global Monitoring Laboratory states that methane emissions have been rising since 1980, from 1,620 ppb to 1,933.46 ppb in October 2023. These emissions have the potential to increase global temperatures 28 times more than CO2. About 20-25% of total methane emissions come from livestock activities, specifically through enteric fermentation in the rumen of livestock, which produces methane gas that is then released through feces and burping. read more

In broiler chicken production, the health of the small intestine is crucial for optimal growth. Pathogenic microbes in the small intestine can infect the digestive tract, causing inflammation and nutrient absorption issues, leading to suboptimal growth.

In recent decades, antibiotic growth promoters (AGP) have been used by farmers to enhance broiler chicken growth performance, administered through feed or drinking water. However, in 2018, the Indonesian government officially banned the use of AGP as additives in livestock due to concerns about AGP residues in chicken meat, which could increase bacterial resistance and cause allergic reactions in humans. read more

A total of 70 members of the Faculty of Animal Science UGM participated in a dental check-up on Friday (21/6). This event was organized by Integrated Development Post (POSBINDU) Health Promoting University (HPU) Faculty of Animal Science UGM in collaboration withHPU Faculty of Dentistry UGM  and dentistry students.

Faculty of Animal Science UGM has distributed a sacrificial cow to a partner village in Ngroto, Girimulyo, Kulon Progo. This distribution has been carried out for the past three years.

“The distribution to the partner village has been conducted for the last three years. We managed to obtain 152 kg of meat from the cow slaughtered there yesterday,” said Tian Jihadhan Wankar, Ir. S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPP, Chairperson of Iduladha 1445 H at Faculty of Animal Science UGM.

He added that for this year’s Iduladha, Faculty of Animal Science UGM slaughtered four cows and five goats. The sacrificial meat will be distributed to external parties in need. This activity aligns with the SDGs goal 2, zero hunger; goal 3, good health and well-being; and goal 17, partnerships for the goals. “The meat will be distributed to communities in need,” he added. read more
