Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of the Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fapet UGM) conducted an outing activity at Sato Loka Educational Wildlife and Livestock Conservation Park located in Hargobinangun, Pakem, Sleman, on Tuesday (27/1). This annual activity, organized by the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of the Faculty of Animal Science, aims to strengthen the bonds among its members while also providing insights into establishing a family business.
“Through this event, the bonds can be strengthened and at the same time we also gain knowledge in developing a family business. One of them is livestock and wildlife development,” stated the Vice Dean of Finance, Assets, and Human Resources, Ir. Andriyani Astuti, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPM., ASEAN Eng.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Suci Paramitasari Syahlani, M.M., IPM., the owner and operator of Sato Loka, explained that a family business can be built starting from a hobby. Her husband and children are fellow animal enthusiasts, particularly passionate about reptiles and snakes.
“We present an educational tourism concept by showcasing both our personal animal collection and animals from the reptile community,” said Suci, who is also a lecturer at the Faculty of Animal Science.
Another speaker, Rizal Ananda Sugianto, S.Si., M.Agr., M.Si., discussed how to gain a closer understanding of reptiles, as well as how to take care of them while also showing them affection.
Sato Loka collects animals such as snakes—whether venomous or not—crocodiles, turtles, otters, fishes, and a few other reptiles. The largest collection consists of snakes, with over 100 individuals from 40 different species. In addition, there are also Saanen goats and Etawa crossbreeds, which are kept for their milk. Sato Loka also produces several processed goat milk products, such as pasteurized milk, yogurt, pudding, and cake.
