Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science UGM Emphasizes the Importance of Publications in Strengthening Institutional Reputation 

Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fapet UGM), Prof. Ir. Budi Guntoro, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng., emphasized the importance of effective website and social media management in strengthening the institution’s reputation. He delivered this message during the opening of the Workshop on Enhancing Website and Social Media Management on Wednesday (23/4).

Prof. Budi reminded participants that every member of the Fapet UGM community, including lecturers, administrative staff, students, and alumni, serves as a representative of the faculty’s public relations efforts.

“Even the smallest piece of information has the potential to benefit the public and carry news value. Therefore, it should never be overlooked,” he said.

He further noted that many activities with significant news value have yet to receive public exposure. Given the wide range of potential news sources within the faculty, he encouraged the academic community to make better use of these opportunities to strengthen institutional communication and visibility.

Representing UGM Public Relations, Gusti Grehenson highlighted the importance of developing a comprehensive database of faculty expertise as part of the university’s communication strategy. According to him, information about lecturers’ areas of expertise and the latest innovations should be presented in an engaging and accessible manner to increase public awareness and outreach.

In another session, Astri Wulandari, UGM’s social media manager, emphasized the importance of audience analysis in social media management. She explained that the university’s primary audience consists of current and prospective students, making it essential to tailor content to their interests and preferences. She also noted that social media plays a vital role in crisis communication by enabling institutions to respond quickly and effectively to public concerns.

Practical insights were also shared by Noor Rasya Swarnasta Anindyanari from the UGM Faculty of Engineering, who stressed the importance of aligning the vision and goals of institutional leaders with those of the social media management team. She explained that without a shared direction, effective communication management becomes difficult. To achieve sustainable success, she emphasized the need to strengthen human resource management, content management, and crisis communication strategies.
