The Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fapet UGM) has officially deployed 20 selected student volunteers to supervise Eid al-Adha animal slaughter operations conducted outside government slaughterhouses across Yogyakarta from May 26 to 29, 2026. The initiative follows a collaborative partnership between Fapet UGM and Yogyakarta Agriculture and Food Agency.
According to Dr. Ir. Endy Triyannanto, S.Pt., M.Eng., IPM., ASEAN Eng., Head of Jagal Halal UGM, comprehensive technical training and supervision are essential to ensure that participating students are well-prepared for their responsibilities in the field.
“This technical supervision and comprehensive training are crucial to equip our students with the knowledge and skills needed to oversee halal slaughter practices while ensuring the proper implementation of animal welfare principles and post-mortem inspections,” he stated on Monday (25/5).
Meanwhile, the Dean of Fapet UGM, Prof. Ir. Budi Guntoro, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng., expressed his appreciation for the selected student delegates and encouraged them to uphold the university’s reputation by ensuring that the meat distributed to the public meets the ASUH standards, Aman (Safe), Sehat (Healthy), Utuh (Wholesome), and Halal.
This collaborative program between academia and the local government serves not only as a form of community engagement but also as a valuable experiential learning opportunity for students. By participating directly in field supervision, students are expected to strengthen their practical competencies, social awareness, and leadership skills.
Through this ongoing partnership, Fapet UGM reaffirms its commitment to supporting the development of a more professional, hygienic, and standardized Eid al-Adha slaughter system in Indonesia.
