Standardizing slaughterers remains an ongoing challenge, including for those who slaughter sacrificial animals. Instances of slaughter, whether at mosques or other locations, that fail to meet established requirements regarding syaria guidelines, hygiene and sanitation, and animal welfare are still frequently encountered.
In response to this situation, JULEHA Yogyakarta, in collaboration with the Faculty of Animal Science at UGM, organized a Halal Slaughterer (JULEHA) training program.
Ir. Cuk Tri Noviandi, S.Pt., M.Anim.St., Ph.D., IPM., ASEAN.Eng., the head of the JULEHA training program at the Faculty, stated that the training aims to prepare halal slaughterers in accordance with the 10 competencies established by the government under SKKNI (Indonesian National Work Competency Standards) No. 147 of 2022.
“We still encounter cases of slaughter that do not comply with the prescribed requirements,” Cuk explained on Monday (27/5).
He added that the training is being conducted in four batches: May 19, May 26, June 1, and June 9. The first batch was attended by 40 participants, while the second had 31 participants. They came from diverse backgrounds, including mosque administrators, slaughterers, slaughterhouse owners, lecturers, and students.
“In this training, participants gain knowledge regarding the 10 JULEHA competencies and engage in practical exercises covering tool preparation, such as blade sharpening, and actual slaughter techniques,” added Cuk, who also serves as the head of JULEHA DIY.
Participants showed great enthusiasm throughout the event, particularly during the practical slaughter session. As part of the JULEHA training, participants received a slaughter knife meeting SKKNI standards, a leather knife sheath, a sharpening steel (honing rod), cut-resistant gloves, a JULEHA polo shirt, a seminar kit, and a training certificate.
