The Research Center for Rural Social Welfare and Connectivity, part of the Governance, Economy, and Community Welfare Research Organization under the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), has partnered with the Faculty of Animal Science at UGM to enhance the quality of research on livestock-based food security through farmer adaptation.
This collaboration was formalized through the signing of an agreement between Dr. Suci Wulandari, S.P., M.M., Head of BRIN’s Research Center for Rural Social Welfare and Connectivity, and the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Ir. Budi Guntoro, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU, ASEAN Eng., on Thursday (18/9) in Jakarta.
The collaboration is titled “Enhancing Livestock-Based Food Security Through Farmer Adaptation to Climate Change in Rural Areas”.
“The research collaboration focused on improving food security by strengthening the rural livestock sub-sector comprises two research proposals: a model for commercial poultry farmer adaptation to climate change impacts in rural areas, and a dairy farmer empowerment model utilizing silage wrap technology in East Java Province,” explained Suci.
Echoing this sentiment, the Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science, Prof. Budi Guntoro, expressed hope that the synergy of resources and expertise between the two parties would yield a dairy farmer empowerment model utilizing silage-wrapping technology, as well as an adaptation model for commercial poultry farmers.
“The hope is that this will contribute to helping farmers cope with the impacts of climate change and maintain livestock productivity, thereby benefiting both the farmers and the wider community,” Budi said.
Following the MoU signing, the event continued with a discussion and a social gathering. Attendees included the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, Ir. R. Ahmad Romadhoni Surya Putra, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU, ASEAN Eng., and the Vice Dean for Finance, Assets, and Human Resources, Ir. Andriyani Astuti, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPM, ASEAN Eng.
