The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Brawijaya University visited the Faculty of Animal Science at UGM on Monday (1/9) to study its entrepreneurship program. The delegation was led by Chomsin Sulistya Widodo, Ph.D., the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Student Entrepreneurship at FMIPA UB.
Chomsin noted that FMIPA UB graduates have career opportunities across various sectors, extending beyond the realm of pure science.
“Many of our alumni work in the livestock, fisheries, and medical sectors, among others,” he stated.
The visit aims to spark creativity among FMIPA UB students in developing entrepreneurial innovations. Despite achieving strong academic results, some students reportedly lack the confidence to launch their own businesses.
“They have excellent GPAs, but often stop there. An entrepreneurial touch is needed to encourage them to take the leap,” Chomsin added.
Meanwhile, the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs at the UGM Faculty of Animal Science, Ir. R. Ahmad Romadhoni Surya Putra, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng., explained that the UGM Faculty of Animal Science graduates pursue careers in various sectors, ranging from industry and entrepreneurship to civil service and education.
“Approximately 67-70 percent of our alumni are absorbed into the industrial sector,” Romadhoni explained.
He added that the Faculty has developed a curriculum oriented toward the professional world, including entrepreneurship programs integrated into the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) initiative. According to him, the modern professional landscape is increasingly complex and demands cross-disciplinary collaboration.
“Therefore, we also establish partnerships with entities from various fields, including engineering, mathematics and natural sciences, and others,” he said.
