56 livestock engineers were inaugurated on Wednesday (19/1) online and offline at the University Club Hotel together with engineers from the UGM Faculty of Engineering. Among the 56 engineers, 17 people came from the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.

Through the engineer program, participants not only get “two in one” but “four in one”, namely obtaining an engineer’s degree, a professional engineer certificate, an Engineer Registration Certificate (STRI), and a Kagama card. The Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM and Bank BNI are collaborating in an entrepreneurial activity entitled Student Entrepreneurial Academic Program, abbreviated as Prawiramas. Substantially, this program is not only a program to learn entrepreneurship for students, but also FAS UGM’s response to the Ministry of Education and Culture’s program namely  “Merdeka Belajar dan Kampus Merdeka” (Freedom to Learn and Independent Campus).

This is not only a student business activity, but also an academic activity with the presence of a supervisor and can also be claimed as a course with a maximum of 6 credits (academic terms apply). The Prawiramas target is 50 students in each period with a maximum funding of IDR 30 million per student, so that the total funds are around IDR 1.5 billion in each period. read more

The Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM has planted rare trees on land that will be built as an integrated teaching farm at Saptopsari Gunungkidul on Friday (18/12). The tree planting was carried out by the Dean of FAS UGM accompanied by vice deans, representatives of the Gunungkidul Regional Secretary, the Saptosari sub-district head, the Head of the Animal Husbandry Division of the Gunungkidul Agriculture and Food Service, and the Jetis village head, Saptosari. The rare trees planted were Gaharu, Cendana, and Cempaka. read more

The Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM has developed Gama Umami grass, which is a mutation of elephant grass that has been irradiated with gamma rays to produce grass that is superior to its parents. Elephant grass was chosen because it is a superior type, favored by ruminants, and is very suitable to be developed in Indonesia, which is a tropical country. The yield of Gama Umami grass is higher than the local elephant grass as an elder and in a year it can be harvested up to 6 times.

“Mutations with gamma ray radiation can affect plant morphology, anatomy, and physiology so as to produce plants that are superior to their parents. “The application of gamma ray radiation is used on vegetative organs, flowers and seeds of elephant grass plants,” said Ir.
