Three Students of Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM students presented a research poster entitled Comparison of Basic Characteristics on Onion Based and Water Based Beef Hamburg Steak Quality at Chosun University, Korea, mid-August 2019. This activity was the final project of their internship program at Chungnam National University, Korea. The three students are Laras Santi Nur’aini (2017), Elsa Cleantha Andira (2017), and Wahyu Eka Putri (2017).

“We conducted the research during the internship, which was in mid-July to August 2019. In that study, we compared the characteristics of hamburg steak with the addition of garlic and water. This research was conducted because the level of meat consumption in developed and developing countries continues to increase, especially in Korea,” said Laras in a release sent on Friday (9/27). read more

Nowadays, honey bees as the guardians of nature have decreased their productivity. Environmental issues such as the use of pesticides, forest fires, and the use of chemical fertilizers pose serious challenges to beekeeping.

“30-40% of agricultural production will be disrupted if the bees are gone. Due to the use of pesticides, bees lose their ability to fly as far as 2 km. Therefore, we must become part of the prosperity of the earth through the development of beekeeping science,” said the Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM, Prof. Dr. Ir. Sorghum, or in Java better known as “Cantel”, is a promising forage to increase ruminant livestock production. Sorghum is a forage that is adaptable in tropical environments and has great potential in the rainy season.

“With the increase in population, food needs also need to be increased, including animal feed. In the midst of limited forage, it is important to develop forage varieties with high production and can grow on suboptimal land,” said Dr. Ir. In order to provide perspectives and insights on livestock production and management of local resources, the Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM held The 8^th International Seminar on Tropical Animal Production (ISTAP) on September 23-25, 2019 at the Royal Ambarukmo Hotel Yogyakarta. This seminar is a routine seminar that is held every 2 years and this year coincides with the 50^th Anniversary and Lustrum X Faculty of Animal Sciences UGM.

“Science is meaningless if it is not realized in the form of written works or scientific meetings. This event is a place for scientists to present the results of research and to build networks. The Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM is back in organizing the beef cattle breeding training entitled Commercial Cattle Breeding and Management Training Batch IV Program, which is a collaboration with the Indonesia-Australia Red Meat and Cattle Partnership on 2-25 September 2019.

“FAS UGM is the organizer of breeding training for the second time. In this training, we will refresh the theory, share research results, experiences – including the experiences of others we accommodate.
