The Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fapet UGM) continues to promote higher standards for Eid al-Adha sacrificial practices by educating the public on proper animal handling and the hygienic management of sacrificial meat in accordance with the principles of halal, safety, ihsan, and hygiene.

Ir. Cuk Tri Noviandi, S.Pt., M.Anim.St., Ph.D., IPM., ASEAN Eng., a lecturer at Fapet UGM, explained that the act of qurban is more than simply slaughtering an animal. Rather, it is an act of worship that reflects devotion to Allah SWT and must be carried out responsibly and in accordance with Islamic principles. Therefore, sacrificial animals must meet both religious and health requirements, including the appropriate species, age, physical condition, and freedom from zoonotic diseases. read more

The Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fapet UGM) once again organized a blood donation drive in collaboration with Palang Merah Indonesia (PMI) on Monday (25/5) at Salesa Hall, Fapet UGM. Initiated by Caravan, the event ran smoothly and attracted enthusiastic participation.

The blood donors included not only members of the faculty community, such as students and administrative staff, but also members of the general public from outside Fapet UGM.

Of the 39 registered participants, 23 successfully passed the health screening and donated blood. The event served as a meaningful expression of social responsibility while contributing to maintaining local blood supplies. read more

The Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fapet UGM) has officially deployed 20 selected student volunteers to supervise Eid al-Adha animal slaughter operations conducted outside government slaughterhouses across Yogyakarta from May 26 to 29, 2026. The initiative follows a collaborative partnership between Fapet UGM and Yogyakarta Agriculture and Food Agency.

The SMART-MEAT team from Universitas Gadjah Mada achieved outstanding success with futuristic innovation by winning First Place in the National Scientific Paper Competition (Lomba Karya Tulis Ilmiah or LKTI) and Third Place in the Poster Competition at the SEMARAC, held as part of the 3rd Anniversary of the Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS).

Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, the interdisciplinary team, comprising Siti Anisah and Feni Indah Nugrahaeni Christianto from the Faculty of Animal Science, along with Setyo Nurcahyani from Agro-Industrial Product Development Program Vocational School, developed an innovative solution to address food safety challenges in Indonesia. Under the supervision of Dr. Fahrizal Yusuf Affandi, S.T.P., M.Sc., the team presented a paper titled “Design of Active-Intelligent Bioplastic Packaging Based on Java Plum (Syzygium cumini) Peel with Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) Extract as a Beef Freshness Monitoring System”. read more
