Faculty of Animal Science UGM Deploys 20 Student Volunteers to Supervise Qurban Eid al-Adha in Yogyakarta 

The Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fapet UGM) has officially deployed 20 selected student volunteers to supervise Eid al-Adha animal slaughter operations conducted outside government slaughterhouses across Yogyakarta from May 26 to 29, 2026. The initiative follows a collaborative partnership between Fapet UGM and Yogyakarta Agriculture and Food Agency.

According to Dr. Ir. Endy Triyannanto, S.Pt., M.Eng., IPM., ASEAN Eng., Head of Jagal Halal UGM, comprehensive technical training and supervision are essential to ensure that participating students are well-prepared for their responsibilities in the field. read more

SMART-MEAT UGM Team Wins First Place in National LKTI Competition at UNS 

The SMART-MEAT team from Universitas Gadjah Mada achieved outstanding success with futuristic innovation by winning First Place in the National Scientific Paper Competition (Lomba Karya Tulis Ilmiah or LKTI) and Third Place in the Poster Competition at the SEMARAC, held as part of the 3rd Anniversary of the Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS).

Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, the interdisciplinary team, comprising Siti Anisah and Feni Indah Nugrahaeni Christianto from the Faculty of Animal Science, along with Setyo Nurcahyani from Agro-Industrial Product Development Program Vocational School, developed an innovative solution to address food safety challenges in Indonesia. Under the supervision of Dr. Fahrizal Yusuf Affandi, S.T.P., M.Sc., the team presented a paper titled “Design of Active-Intelligent Bioplastic Packaging Based on Java Plum (Syzygium cumini) Peel with Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) Extract as a Beef Freshness Monitoring System”. read more

From Leather Processing to Livestock Genomics: UGM Promotes Sustainable Innovation  

Universitas Gadjah Mada continues to strengthen its role in advancing sustainable technologies through the 2026 International Summer Course titled “Sustainable and Green Leather Technology: From Conventional Processing to Bio-Based Innovation” hosted by the Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fapet UGM). Held from May 18 to June 5, the program brought together international experts to discuss environmentally friendly leather processing innovations and the application of livestock genomics for sustainable agricultural systems. read more

Fapet UGM Successfully Holds National JULEHA Certification to Strengthen Commitment to Halal Food Standards

The three-day JULEHA (Juru Sembelih Halal or Halal Slaughterer) Competency Certification program at the Competency Assessment Center (Tempat Uji Kompetensi, or TUK) of the Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fapet UGM) officially concluded on Sunday (17/5). The final day marked the decisive stage of the certification process, during which participants were required to demonstrate their practical skills through a comprehensive hands-on competency assessment.

Beginning at 6:30 a.m., the practical examination was conducted at Toros Farm, Pleret, Bantul, under the close supervision of a team of certified assessors. Throughout the field assessment, each participant was individually evaluated on a range of competencies, including pre-slaughter animal handling, the proper application of humane restraint techniques in accordance with animal welfare principles, and the accuracy and efficiency of slaughter procedures performed in compliance with Islamic law (Sharia). read more

WUR Student from the Netherlands Shares Experience in Organic Farming and Cheese Production in France   

A master’s student at Wageningen University & Research (WUR), the Netherlands, Siep Jossi Missaar, shared his firsthand experience in organic dairy farming and artisanal cheesemaking during a sharing session attended by laboratory assistants and lecturers at the Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fapet UGM), on Monday (11/5).

The session brought together lecturers and assistants from the Laboratory of Beef Cattle, Draught Animals, and Companion Animals, as well as the Laboratory of Dairy Science and Milk Industry. read more
