The Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fapet UGM), through its Graduate Student Association, once again organized an inspiring academic event by hosting Dr. Prakash Murgeppa Bhuyar from Maejo University as an international guest lecturer. Recognized among the top 2% of researchers in Thailand, Dr. Prakash has an extensive publication record in internationally reputable Q1 journals. The event formed part of Fapet UGM’s strategic efforts to strengthen the capacity of graduate students, particularly in scientific writing and publishing in internationally recognized journals.
In his presentation, Dr. Prakash emphasized that scientific publication is an integral part of the research process. He explained that research cannot truly be considered complete until its findings have been published and made accessible to the scientific community.
“Publication is not only a means of disseminating knowledge, but also a way to improve writing quality, broaden the impact of research, and foster the continuous advancement of science,” Dr. Prakash said on Monday (20/4).
The lecture covered strategies for writing theses and scientific manuscripts, particularly for journals indexed in the Web of Science database. Dr. Prakash highlighted the importance of organizing scientific papers using the IMRAD structure: Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion. He also encouraged students to craft clear, concise, and engaging titles and abstracts that effectively capture readers’ attention.
Beyond writing techniques, Dr. Prakash introduced several research platforms and digital tools that can support academic work, including Google Scholar, ResearchGate, and Mendeley. He also discussed the responsible use of writing assistants such as Grammarly and ChatGPT to improve manuscript preparation. Throughout the session, he shared practical tips and strategies to increase the likelihood of publishing in internationally reputable journals.
The event also provided valuable information on opportunities for further study, student exchange programs, and international scholarship schemes available at Maejo University. These insights were expected to encourage students to expand their global academic networks while enhancing their international competitiveness.
During the question-and-answer session, Fapet UGM graduate students actively engaged with the speaker, raising questions about common challenges and effective strategies for scientific publication. The interactive discussion offered practical solutions to issues frequently encountered in academic writing and publishing. The organizers hope the event will equip students with the knowledge and confidence needed to produce high-quality scientific publications with global impact.
