The Regent of Magelang, Grengseng Pamuji, delivered an important message to new students of the UGM Faculty of Animal Science during the PIONIR Rancher 2025 event. On this occasion, Grengseng highlighted three key factors for career success: setting priorities, maintaining discipline, and networking.
“If I were asked to offer words of motivation, I would point to those three main things. Whether during our studies or after graduation, we must establish a clear set of priorities. Furthermore, we need discipline in every step we take, and, equally important, we must build a network that supports our career journey,” Grengseng told the new students on Wednesday (6/7).
The Regent, who is also a 1998 alumnus of UGM Faculty of Animal Science, reminded the students that the path to success is rarely smooth. Despite not having a flawless academic background, Grengseng chose to enter the world of politics. He emphasized the importance of seizing available opportunities and using education as a foundation to contribute to society.
Addressing new students from the Faculty of Animal Science at UGM, Grengseng highlighted a key concern: livestock sovereignty in Indonesia, which he believes falls far short of expectations. He noted that while the demand for livestock products like eggs and meat continues to rise, the profits largely benefit investors rather than local farmers. Consequently, he hopes the students will play an active role in developing the livestock sector by applying the knowledge gained during their studies, ensuring that future farmers rely on more than just instinct alone.
“I have long been involved in building sheep-farming groups, which now comprise 201 sheep, across the Secang and Grabag districts,” Grengseng added.
PIONIR Rancher 2025: Self-Exploration and Collaboration
PIONIR Rancher 2025, organized by Fapet UGM, served as a platform for new students to gain deeper insight into the livestock industry and discover how they could contribute to it. The event was opened by the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, Ir. R. Ahmad Romadhoni Surya Putra, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPM., ASEAN Eng. The program centered on the theme: “Exploring the Young Rancher: Harmonious Growth Together, Realizing Aspirations and Dreams”.
In his remarks, Romadhoni explained that the theme aims to encourage new students to embark on a journey of self-exploration; intellectually, socially, and emotionally. “PIONIR Rancher 2025 invites Young Ranchers to unite their differences through harmonious collaboration, grow together in a spirit of mutual support, and ignite their aspirations as a brilliant generation looking toward the future with optimism,” he stated.
This event is intended to serve as an opportunity for students to hone their potential and broaden their understanding of the livestock sector, a field that presents numerous challenges. PIONIR Rancher 2025 also encourages students to explore values of leadership and solidarity with one another.
In addition to academic introductions covering topics such as study programs and course registration (KRS), students participated in several engaging activities over the course of two days, including laboratory tours, livestock facility tours, and a Future Fair.
