Not only setting the record as the graduate with the shortest study period on Period III of the 2025/2026 Academic Year bachelor program graduation procession last May, Bidadari Kalila Artadhya was held as the first graduate of the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) of the Faculty of Animal Science of Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fapet UGM). Dara, as she was known, was born in Jakarta and succeeded in graduating in three years, five months, and fourteen days.
“I’m very grateful for this achievement. This is not possible without the support of my family, lecturers, and friends,” said Bidadari on Monday, June 9th.
Bidadari recollects her first time choosing to study at Fapet UGM IUP. One of the things attracting her was a unique compulsory course titled ‘Animal Wellbeing and Behaviour’. “Since I was little I always asked whether animals were hurt in the livestock or other industries. That course gave me a comprehensive explanation ranging from animal wellbeing assessment up to the different regulations in various countries,” added her.
After being accepted into Fapet UGM, Bidadari saw the IUP program to offer a dynamic and multicultural academic environment. The IUP students coming from various backgrounds are obliged to spend a study period abroad, this enhances Bidadari’s viewpoint and spirit to keep on learning. In the English-based classroom learning, Bidadari was always active.
“The classes here use English as the main language and I am very happy to be given this opportunity to discuss in class or with the lecturers in discussing the newest researches in her topic,” explained her.
Bidadari’s thesis research in the Fapet UGM IUP program was regarding student’s knowledge of the 2020 Five Domains Model of Animal Welfare. This model aims to facilitate the assessment of animal welfare systematically, structurally, thoroughly, and coherently. In the 2020 version, this model becomes a guidebook to assess human behaviour impacts on animals.
Besides being active in class, Bidadari also joined the AIESEC organization in UGM, while also involved in some event planning committees and became an assistant in her department. The key to balancely fulfill all of the responsibilities is to put on mindfulness and strong time management practices.
“There are a lot of challenges in this journey and all of them allow me to grow better and become a new self,” said her.
The life value of being useful to others, taught by her mother and her late father, made Bidadari to enjoy every process in her journey.
Congratulations, Bidadari. May your story and your spirit inspire us all.
