The Faculty of Animal Science in UGM held a webinar titled “Balanced Nutrition to Support Personal Health and Productivity” on Wednesday (26/11). The webinar featured Rini Wuri Astuti, S.Si.T., M.Gizi, a dietitian and lecturer in the Nutrition Department at the Health Polytechnic of the Ministry of Health, Yogyakarta.
In her presentation, Rini highlighted the triple burden of malnutrition that Indonesia still faces: undernutrition, overnutrition, and micronutrient deficiencies. The 2023 Indonesian Child Health Survey data show that 1 in 5 toddlers suffers from stunting, while obesity cases in adults are increasing, especially among women. Rini explained that nutrition plays a crucial role in maintaining productivity, as the brain consumes approximately 20% of the body’s total energy.
“Poor diets can lead to fatigue, difficulty focusing, and even decreased work performance,” she explained.
She also outlined the various challenges of modern workers, ranging from irregular meal schedules, the dominance of fast food, to the habit of consuming high-sugar snacks during overtime. To that end, webinar participants were encouraged to apply three important principles: the right mindset, the right knowledge, and the right actions.
In the webinar, she also shared several practical recommendations, including not skipping breakfast, using the “Isi Piringku” (My Plate) guide with a balanced composition, meeting the minimum fluid requirement of two liters per day, bringing a packed lunch to avoid the temptation of unhealthy foods, and increasing the consumption of vegetables, fruit, and protein at every meal.
At the end of the session, Rini emphasized that healthy eating is not about strict diets, but about making better and consistent choices every day. “The best investment is an investment in your own health,” she said.
