The Faculty of Animal Science in UGM has once again demonstrated its standing on the international stage by hosting and organizing the 11ᵗʰ International Seminar on Tropical Animal Production (ISTAP) 2025 at the Eastparc Hotel Yogyakarta. This prestigious biennial seminar featured 89 presenters from five countries, alongside keynote and plenary speakers from seven nations.
The event was officially opened by Prof. Dr. Puji Astuti, S.Si., M.Si., Apt., UGM’s Director of Partnerships and Global Relations, who delivered remarks on behalf of the UGM Rector. In her address, Prof. Puji emphasized that ISTAP is one of UGM’s flagship academic events, serving as a platform for global collaboration in research and scientific publication within the field of tropical animal production.
“This seminar serves not only as a scientific forum but also as a means to strengthen collaborative networks among universities, research institutions, and industry partners, driving sustainable innovation in the livestock sector,” she stated on Friday (14/11).
Earlier, the Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science in UGM, Prof. Dr. Ir. Budi Guntoro, S.Pt., M.Sc., IPU, ASEAN Eng., stated in his remarks that this year’s ISTAP theme, “Building a Smart Livestock Ecosystem and Environment: Synergy Among Stakeholders and Sustainable Animal Practices”, reflects the importance of balancing livestock productivity with environmental sustainability.
“This seminar serves as a platform for dialogue and collaboration among scientists to generate innovations that address the challenges of food security and the sustainability of global livestock systems,” Prof. Budi explained.
This year, ISTAP is being held concurrently with the Board Meeting of the Asian Association of Agricultural Colleges and Universities (AAACU), further strengthening academic and research networks among agricultural higher education institutions across Asia.
This forum brings together experts from various renowned institutions, such as SEARCA (Philippines), Nagoya University (Japan), Universiti Putra Malaysia, National Chung Hsing University (Taiwan), Masaryk University (Czech Republic), the University of New England (Australia), the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) (Philippines), Kasetsart University International College (KUIC) (Thailand), and Hiroshima University (Japan).
The Faculty hopes that hosting ISTAP 2025 will strengthen Indonesia’s contribution to the development of sustainable tropical animal science and enhance UGM’s academic visibility on the international stage.
