The Faculty of Animal Science at UGM officially launched its 56ᵗʰ anniversary celebrations on Friday (3/10). The opening event began with a fun walk and run, starting from the Faculty of Animal Science complex and following a route through the UGM campus.
To mark the start of the anniversary commemorations, the Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science, Prof. Ir. Budi Guntoro, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng., accompanied by the faculty leadership team and the organizing committee, symbolically struck a gong and released 56 birds.
The Anniversary Committee Chair, Dr. Ir. Agussalim, S.Pt., M.Sc., IPM., ASEAN Eng., explained that this year’s anniversary theme is “Enhancing Superior Human Resources through Livestock-Derived Functional Foods towards a Golden Indonesia 2045.” He noted that functional foods play a significant role in realizing the vision of a Golden Indonesia 2045.
“Functional foods derived from livestock, such as milk, eggs, meat, honey, and their derivatives, are high-value nutritional sources proven to enhance physical health, immune system resilience, and cognitive function in humans. Various studies also highlight the presence of key bioactive compounds in these functional foods that can improve overall well-being,” explained Agussalim.
Echoing this sentiment, Prof. Budi Guntoro emphasized that the anniversary celebration should serve as an opportunity for reflection and future planning for the entire Faculty of Animal Science community.
“We must learn from past shortcomings and formulate better plans for the future,” he asserted.
He added that the chosen theme is highly relevant to current circumstances. Education and nutrition are closely linked; therefore, through research, innovation, community service, and the advancement of knowledge in animal science, the Faculty is committed to introducing and developing livestock-derived functional foods for the general public.
The lively opening ceremony for the 56ᵗʰ anniversary of the Faculty of Animal Science UGM was attended by hundreds of lecturers, administrative staff, and students. The event also served as an occasion to celebrate the faculty’s achievements, including the indexing of the Faculty of Animal Science’s bulletin in Scopus and the official designation of the Gama cattle as a new beef cattle breed.
