The Faculty of Animal Science at UGM is partnering with the parents of new students to ensure the success of the educational process. This initiative was realized through a meeting for parents and guardians of new students in the Animal Science and Industry Study Program, held at the Drh. R. Soepardjo Auditorium on Monday (4/8).
“Educational success requires synergy between the university and the family,” emphasized the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, Ir. R. Ahmad Romadhoni Surya Putra, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU, ASEAN Eng.
Addressing the parents and guardians, Romadhoni outlined the profile of the Faculty of Animal Science, noting that it is the youngest faculty at the university. Currently, the faculty has approximately 76 lecturers; among them are 26 professors and 56 doctorate holders, while 20 are currently pursuing their doctoral studies. The Faculty comprises five departments: Animal Nutrition and Feed Science, Animal Production, Socio-Economics of Animal Science, Animal Product Technology, and Animal Breeding and Reproduction.
“The level of competition to enter the Faculty of Animal Science exceeds the competition level for the university as a whole,” he stated.
Regarding graduate profiles, the Faculty’s alumni are currently active as professional engineers, livestock industry professionals, business leaders, entrepreneurs, researchers, educators, and bureaucrats. Romadhoni also highlighted the Faculty’s focus on student mental health and inclusive education.
In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Ir. Budi Guntoro, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng., reaffirmed the vision of the Animal Science and Industry Study Program: to provide education in animal science and industry that is excellent, independent, dignified, and internationally standardized, while embodying the spirit of Pancasila and prioritizing the interests and prosperity of the Indonesian nation.
“Academic competence coupled with social awareness; that is what we hope for from every student,” Budi said.
The gathering with parents and guardians was a cordial affair, featuring a lively question-and-answer session. Topics raised during the discussion included the professional engineer program, career prospects for the Faculty’s graduates, and tips for academic success.
