UGM Faculty of Animal Science Students Win Best Animal Feed Formulation Award at Hasanuddin University

Three students from the UGM Faculty of Animal Science, led by Prima Cendekia Nirmala Afiatri, with team members Bangkit Setiyoko and Zahra Ayu Pramesthi, won the “Best Formulation” award and secured 1st Runner-Up in the Animal Feed Formulation competition. The event was organized by the Animal Product Technology Student Association of Hasanuddin University on August 30, 2025. Held at the Hasanuddin University Faculty of Animal Science, the prestigious competition drew participants from various universities across Indonesia.

Prima Cendekia explained that the competition began with an initial selection stage requiring all participants to submit a proposal for a ruminant livestock ration. These proposals had to meet specific standards and demonstrate an understanding of livestock nutrition. A panel of judges, comprising experts and practitioners in the field of animal science, evaluated all submissions with great precision and objectivity. Following a rigorous selection process, the top five finalists were chosen to advance to the next stage.

Subsequently, the finalists were invited to Hasanuddin University to tackle the final, challenging session: poultry feed formulation. In this session, each team was required to demonstrate innovative capabilities and technical skills by designing feed that not only met nutritional requirements but also took economic and sustainability aspects into account.

During this stage, the UGM students demonstrated their creativity in designing feed formulations. They successfully created a ration that was both efficient and environmentally friendly by utilizing available local ingredients. The UGM team’s success in securing this award serves as proof of their solid understanding of animal science and their ability to innovate in its practical application.

“We are deeply grateful to receive this award. It is the result of the team’s hard work, support from our lecturers, and contributions from our peers at the Faculty. We hope this achievement inspires other students to continue learning and innovating,” he said on Wednesday (3/9).

This achievement not only brings pride to the students and the Faculty but also generates a positive impact on Indonesia’s livestock sector. With more students excelling in this field, it is hoped that innovations will emerge to enhance the productivity and sustainability of the livestock industry.
