Faculty of Animal Science UGM Plants Rare Trees in Integrated Teaching Farm

The Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM has planted rare trees on land that will be built as an integrated teaching farm at Saptopsari Gunungkidul on Friday (18/12). The tree planting was carried out by the Dean of FAS UGM accompanied by vice deans, representatives of the Gunungkidul Regional Secretary, the Saptosari sub-district head, the Head of the Animal Husbandry Division of the Gunungkidul Agriculture and Food Service, and the Jetis village head, Saptosari. Livestock Innovations and Strategies in Support of Sustainable Agricultural Development

Fapet UGM Develops Gama Umami, Superior Grass from Gamma Ray Radiation

The Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM has developed Gama Umami grass, which is a mutation of elephant grass that has been irradiated with gamma rays to produce grass that is superior to its parents. Elephant grass was chosen because it is a superior type, favored by ruminants, and is very suitable to be developed in Indonesia, which is a tropical country. The yield of Gama Umami grass is higher than the local elephant grass as an elder and in a year it can be harvested up to 6 times.

“Mutations with gamma ray radiation can affect plant morphology, anatomy, and physiology so as to produce plants that are superior to their parents. “The application of gamma ray radiation is used on vegetative organs, flowers and seeds of elephant grass plants,” said Ir. Faculty of Animal Science UGM Graduated 13 Masters and 5 Doctors

Faculty of Animal Science (FAS) UGM graduated 13 Masters and 5 Doctors in the graduation ceremony for the October 2020 period. The average GPA of the Master Program graduates was 3.85 and the Doctoral Program was 3.82.

“In the midst of this pandemic, for a moment we are happy because you have finished your studies at UGM. We congratulate you, you are now an alumnus who has the right to hold M.Sc and Doctoral degrees. We hope that the graduates will not stop learning from anyone because actually everyone we meet can provide lessons for all of us,” said the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Ir. Application of Genetic and Molecular Genetic Technology to Increase Animal Productivity
